My brother

I am Sufia. We are three sisters and one brother. I have father, but he doesn’t live with us. I have mother. She is a housewife. My brother is only on earning person in our family. Our family depends on him. I did not any cares from my father. But I don’t know about affection and love of my father. My brother loves me so much. He believes me. He passed S.S.C in 1994. From that he is working hard for our family. I am very proud of my brother. Because, he is my brother, he is my father, he is my friend and he is my all. I pray all time for my brother. May he stay good and God bless him. My brother is a best brother for me. I best happy for my brother.

Sufia,
Your beautiful post brought tears to my eyes. I have a little brother and feel the exact way you do. My brother has taken on many roles in our family; father, confidant, best friend, big brother (even if he is younger than me!) and I feel blessed to have him in my life.
Thank you for sharing your feelings with us.

Hi Sufia,

I am also very close with my little sister. While she was a teenager we lived together while our parents lived in other places. I used to feel much more like her uncle, but now that she is almost 19-years-old we are able to hang out as friends and brother and sister. I am very glad that you have a nice relationship with your brother.

I always feel envious when people say they are close to their brothers or sisters. It must be a really wonderful feeling.

Your brother sounds like an angel. If only more people can be like him, including myself!

Thanks for sharing, and for making me aware.

I enjoyed reading about the story of your brother. My mother died when I was young and my father was not around. My brother and I were the only ones we could depend on in life. We all need someone to love and protect us in family. I understand your loving relationship you have shared with your brother. I will pray for your wellbeing.

Dear Sufia,
I really enjoyed reading your poetry and your "My brother" post. I also am not sure about the cares of my father. He left my family while I was very young and because of this my brother and I are very close as friends and as brother and sister. You said it best--he is the best brother for you. What does he do for work to make an earning for your family? Is it common for the father not to be at home?

I'd love to hear more about life as a woman in Bangladesh. I am living in the United States and studying in Graduate school to be an Art Teacher and I want to bring creativity and vision to children in poor areas of my country. In school I am taking a course about Gender Issues in education, internationally. That is how I discovered your blog. As a part of the class, I would love to write back and forth with you to share and learn from each other. I have questions like: Are most women housewives? What is the traditional education for girls like in your country? what are your plans after you learn more about computers and typing?

If you want to write back, and have an email address, you can email me at maggie.pchang@gmail.com

Thanks and have a great day!!
